NEW YEAR…… NEW ME……. NEW CALENDAR!!!

All our customers and contacts are used to their East Lancashire Box calendar dropping through the mail, or being hand delivered if you are one of the lucky ones, around this time of year. However, this year we have embraced the new year’s moto “New Year, New Me” and changed our look….

We have given the calendar a new more informative facelift. The Blue and Gold, which has been the theme of the calendars since they made their debut almost a quarter of a century ago, has been thrown out. From January 1st 2017 they are going to show more about what we actually do. Therefore, the new look displays images of day to day elements of working life at East Lancashire Box.

Don’t panic, the much loved daily facts and quotes are still there to be enjoyed each day!!!

Here is a sneak peak at our new look…

Golf Team

On June 6th both Nick and Peter’s favourite recreational sporting activities combined creating an event which East Lancashire Box could not pass up the opportunity to participate in, the first (and hopefully not the last) ever Rossendale Rugby Club Golf Day held at Baxenden Golf Club. The fact that Rossendale Rugby Club is Nicks pride and joy and Peter, when not working, is most likely to be found on a golf course feeding his golfing addiction, meant they were both adamant a East Lancashire Box team would be entered in this event.

Initially the plan had been for Peter to participate along with 3 others, however, due to unavoidable commitments elsewhere he was unable to attend. Luckily Ian Shuttleworth came to our rescue along with 3 of his friends. Ian has worked for the company for 26 years and is our second longest serving member of staff. When he is not off delivering goods to our customers around the country he always finds time to pop into Peters office for a little “Golf Chat”, therefore, he was the perfect candidate in place of Peter.

Ian did us proud and brought home the win!! He and his happy men played on top form. Although it was a close competition and they were hunted down by other teams but they managed to withstand the pressure and finished the day at the top of the leader board meaning that the East Lancashire Box team are the official winners of the 2014 Rossendale Rugby Club Golf Day.

We would like to say a massive congratulations and thank you to Ian and his fellow team members for doing ELB proud and bringing home the win!! They won a day out for four at a Rossendale Rugby Club match with prime position on the Rossendale Rugby Club Wagon which we hope they thoroughly enjoy.

We are already looking forward to the 2015 Golf Day, the pressure will be on to maintain our top spot.

Maintaining Standards the BRC Way!!

BRC Packaging

For the second year running East Lancashire Box Co. Ltd. has been certificated with a Grade A in the BRC Global Standard for Packaging and Packaging Materials. The rigorous audit took place over two days in the middle of April and today we received our certificate confirming we have maintained our Grade A standard!!

A few years ago when we started the process of trying to obtain certification by the standard we were unaware of quite how intense it would be. Luckily we have a great workforce, who understand the need to follow all the procedures we put in place. However, until we began our mission to become BRC certified a lot of what we did was not well documented or recorded, a vital element to the BRC standard. Therefore, we had to develop and amend a lot of our procedures, as well as making some physical alterations to site in the hope of achieving our BRC dream. Our workforce, being adaptable and diligent in all that they do, have responded perfectly to these changes taking on board and following all our amendments and alterations to their working practices helping us to meet the standard and receive a virtually flawless audit report.

For those who may be unaware, BRC (British Retailer Consortium) Global Standard is a leading safety and quality certification program used by over 20,000 suppliers in 90 countries. It guarantees standardisation of quality, safety and operational criterion and ensures that manufactures fulfil their legal obligations and provide protection for the end customer. It has become a fundamental requirement to many of the leading retailers. The standards are developed for different product areas such as Food Safety, Consumer Products, Packaging and Packaging Material, and storage and distribution. ELB is certified under the Packaging and Packaging Material category which consists of six sections:-

1. Senior Management & Commitment and Continual Improvement.
2. Hazard and Risk Management System.
3. Technical Management System.
4. Site Standard.
5. Product & Process Control.
6. Personnel – standard for training, protective equipment and personal hygiene.

East Lancashire Box are committed to improving and developing all that goes into our end products to meet industry, retailers and consumer requirements and needs. Next up we think shall be the FSC certification. It is important to us to protect the environment and we want to make sure all our board starts life in a forest that is certified to the required standard. We shall keep you posted on the progress of this mission.

As ever, our achievements would not be possible without our dedicated team of employees who chose to undertake changes and developments to better the business with 100% commitment and enthusiasm, for this we extremely grateful.

Celebrating 25 Years of Phillip Green!!

image

This month Phillip Green joined the elite group of loyal employees who have dedicated 25 years continuous service to the company. He commenced his employment in May 1989 and has remained with us ever since. In honour of this achievement a small presentation took place where Peter Ingham made a short speech and presented Phillip with a special edition “25 Year Employee” ELB polo shirt and a plaque with his name on that shall be added to the small (but growing) board of employees who have been a part of the company for over a quarter of a century.

We would like to thank Phillip for his hard work and dedication. Phillip is part of the furniture at East Lancashire Box, it would not be the same place without him. He brightens up the factory every Dress-Down Friday usually wearing one of his numerous Hawaiian style shirts. He is a highly valued member of the workforce and we look forward to him hopefully remaining a part of our ELB Team for many more years to come!!

At East Lancashire Box Co. Ltd we are lucky to have such loyal and devoted employees and we are looking forward to celebrating more 25 years of service in the not too distant future. Next up is Janet Heaton, she has worked for us continuously since 1990 followed by Adele Bolton who joined us in 1994.
